Trump signs executive order allowing immigrants free flights out of US
ANKARA / ISTANBUL
US President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order permitting undocumented immigrants in the country to take free flights out of the US, the White House announced.
According to a White House statement, the order includes the CBP (Customs and Border Patrol) Home Application and the Free Return Home program.
It said various methods, including the CBP Home app, would be used to create processes for “illegal aliens to rapidly depart the United States.”
Any flights for illegal aliens who leave the country voluntarily and permanently will be funded by the federal government, according to the statement.
Those who choose to leave will receive an “exit bonus,” intended to cover travel costs and aid in relocation, it added.
In a post on social media, Trump wrote: “Today, I signed an Executive Order to launch the first-ever self-deportation program. Illegal aliens who stay in America face punishments, including—sudden deportation, in a place and manner solely of our discretion. TO ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS: BOOK YOUR FREE FLIGHT RIGHT NOW!”
The move comes just days after the US offered illegal immigrants $1,000 to self deport.
Trump’s anti-immigration moves
After returning to the White House this January, Trump announced the termination of the CBP One app, which provided legal pathways for immigration.
Trump also ordered the preparation of a detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to hold up 30,000 migrants who are living illegally in the US. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the facility as “a perfect place” to detain deported migrants.
