TRNC ratifies "flag of United Cyprus Republic"

LEFKOSA (AA) – Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Council of Minister ratified on Wednesday the draft flag of "United Cyprus Republic" which will start to be used after TRNC and Greek Cypriot side approves United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan’s plan.

TRNC Council of Ministers Spokesman and Health and Social Assistance Minister Huseyin Celal told A.A correspondent that Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat and Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas brought the draft flag onto agenda of the meeting of Council of Ministers.

Celal said that there was not any law that TRNC Council of Ministers could ratify the flag of "United Cyprus Republic" but there was not any law saying the opposite either.

Therefore, there were not any legal problems about this issue, Celal stated.

Celal said, "it is the flag of United Cyprus Republic to be formed in the future."

Noting that some changes were made on the flag which had earlier been published in the press, Celal listed colors of the flag as red, yellow and blue.

Celal said, "but the red in the flag of United Cyprus Republic is not like the red in Turkish flag and the blue in the flag of United Cyprus Republic is not like the blue in Greek flag."

The yellow in the draft flag referred to the yellow in the "Cyprus Republic" flag, Celal noted.

Celal added that TRNC would notify the U.N. on Thursday the latest that it had ratified the draft flag.
