TRNC condemn G. Cypriot police’s manhandling Turkish journalist

LEFKOSA (AA) – TRNC Foreign Press Union Chairman Metin Catan and Turkish Cypriot Journalists Association Chairman Mete Tumerkan issued a joint statement and noted that "we strongly protest such kind of provocative, anti-peace initiatives of Greek Cypriot police in a period by when the sides in Cyprus started negotiations. We show those who always put the responsibility of such initiatives on the Turkish Cypriot side, the address of the side which does not want real peace on the island."

Meanwhile U.N. Peace Keeping soldiers interfered with a group of Turkish journalists who walked to the Greek Cypriot barricade of Ledra Palace Border Gate to take image. The same day Greek Cypriot interior ministry took a decision that necessitated journalists having parents born in Turkey to take special permission from the Greek Cypriot side if they wanted to proceed to Southern Cyprus.
