Trial of 3 US Soldiers Accused of Torture Begins
An anonymous official said the first trial of military police privates Charles Graner Jr, 35, Javal Davis, 26, and Ivan Chip Frederick, 37, started under tight security in Baghdad at the Green zone where coalition forces are located.
Davis’ Lawyer, Paul Bergin, had previously said that he would ask the judge to dismiss the case because the chain of command reaches all the way to US President George W. Bush.
The case against another private accused of torturing and mistreating Iraqi captives, Lynndie England, will start tomorrow (June 22) in the U.S. state of North Carolina.
The torture scandal documented with photographs led to the dismissal of Gen. Janis Karpinski, the Prison commander and lawsuits against the US soldiers who conducted the torture.
