Tourist Sold to Turkey, Will Stand at Izmit Stud Farm
New York sire and multiple grade 1 winner Tourist , a 13-year-old son of Tiznow, has been sold to Fazli Yurdabak of Turkey in a deal brokered by Matt Bowling of Bowling Bloodstock and Murat Sancal, according to Rockridge Stud.
Tourist, who won the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1T) and Fourstardave Handicap (G1T) in 2016, will stand at Izmit Stallion Complex for the 2025 season, once he completes quarantine at Sancal Racing at Elmendorf Farm in Lexington.
From five crops of racing age, Tourist to date has sired 190 winners that include nine black-type winners. His top runners include Wentru , who won the 2022 Valedictory Stakes (G3) at Woodbine after setting a course record of 2:17.95 in a 1 3/8-mile allowance/optional claiming race; grade 2-placed, 2021 American Derby winner Tango Tango Tango ; and grade 3-placed stakes winner Carpenters Call . Tourist also shuttled two seasons to Chile, which produced group 3 winner El Mentalista (CHI) and group-placed winners Chico Bestia (CHI), Lotto En Flor (CHI), and Grand Modesto (CHI).
Tourist’s runners have earned nearly $12 million so far.
Bred by WinStar Farm, Tourist raced from 2 to 5 and won or placed in seven grade 1 stakes. WinStar raced him initially with trainer Bill Mott and later added partners Gary Barber and Wachtel Stable. Tourist retired with a 6-3-4 record from 18 starts and earned $2,170,340.
