Torture Scandal Grows With New Photos

On the other side, the American administration prepared a law draft for the United Nations Security Council that would exempt its soldiers, working as a ‘peace force’, from the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court. Meanwhile, former Prison Commander, Gen. Janis Karpinski, said that Military Intelligence is responsible for the tortures.

An American intelligence officer, Sgt. Samuel Provance, disclosed that the tortures were systematic. Provance, working as an intelligence analyst, said yesterday that the Military Intelligence has high-ranking relations with the Abu Ghraib tortures; however, the U.S. Armed Forces is trying to cover up these relations.

Sgt. Provance, speaking about the subject, claimed in his deposition that the staff of the Prison could not act unless there was an order from a high-ranking officer. Provance said that the soldiers engaging in the tortures were directed by intelligence officials and that the same officials referred to the Iraqis as the ‘enemy’.

He added that Gen. George Fay, who is in charge of investigation, tried to dissuade him from giving a deposition and that everyone had suggested to one another that they be quite. Provance exposed an Army order that supports his claim and said that the ‘silence’ of the moment is because many were involved in the tortures. He added that prison personnel are hiding and praying that they will not be caught up in this storm.
