Thousands turn out for pro-Syrian rally

President Emile Lahoud warned that another such demonstration could have catastrophic effects on the country that only got itself out of civil war 15 years ago.

"If they want to continue demonstrating, a little firecracker will lead to a catastrophe. We have lived through 17 years of war and this could happen again."

The demonstrations are just one of the many on a list that have taken place in Lebanon since the death of former prime minister Rafi Hariri.

Another demonstration by Lebanon’s pro-Syrain group is planned to take place in Beiruit on Monday
