The REAL Colonialists Rise Please..?
Still these remarks are a clear and typical demonstration of the current U.S. administrations disregard and lack of historical perspectives.
Such statments coming from the official of an administration, who using the incredilous claim of Weapons Of Mass Destruction, has ignored the majority of the world opinion invaded, and literally obliterated Iraq , a country ravaged by 12 years of sanctions and with no apparent ability to defend herself . The world community at large still knows such weapons if present, would have been used by the deposed Iraqi leader S. Hussein.
What better opportunity would there be for such a blood thirsty tyrant ?
Until 3/22/ 2003 there was no need to rebuild Iraq. While Iraq wasn’t governed by the most compassionate statesman, U.S. isn’t also known exactly to have ran to the aid of small African countries where blood bath is a normal way of life, either.
Now that this administration has clearly failed to demonstrate any legitimate grounds to raid and invade, she is desparately seeking to involve and have the world nations to clear up the mass created by herself.
Even in the midst of this desparate pursuit to have other nations clean up the mess caused by the U.S. and efforts of having this administrations President re-elected in 2004, the Iraqi Governor (??) displays the same ignorance and lack of understanding the true dynamics of The Middle East.
While the ulterior motives of The Ottoman Empire is debatable, it is also clear that the the "suffering" of The Iraqi people coincides with the fall of The Ottoman Empire and the arrival of the "noble" ideals of another empire on whose soil the "sun never set".
It is perhaps no accident that U.S.’s invasion ally is U.K, the historically well known true colonialist power. Mr Bremer would be better advised to have studied the histories of countries like India, Pakistan and The entire Middle East region, where The British Empire’s presence throughout centuries brought nothing but lasting blood shed, turm-oil and perpetual unrest and instability.
Therefore it is quite remarkable that U.S. officials who apparently reside in the proverbial glass house can cast stone on "colonialist powers"…
Turkey should have stayed her course by not involving herself militarily in Iraq. France and Germany have shown more political strength.
Even if Turkey did not exactly side with these two countries, she could and should have adhered to the golden principle chiseled in her collective psyche by her Founding Father Mustafa Kemal Ataturk: "Piece at Home, Piece in The world".
Turkey’s continuing aid to Iraq by sending business and technology will be a clear demonstration of this principle, otherwiseTurks will be remembered as the collaborators of the invaders by the Iraqi people.
What the Iraqi "Governing Council" feels presently towards the Turkish troop deployment does not necessarily represent the entire Iraqi population, and is not even surprising because it is a selective group of leaders from certain communities hand picked by this administration, they are the "puppet government in the making".
America will eventually depart from Iraq, yet Turks do not have this as a choice, they will continue to live with this next door neighbor.
Turkey still has this choice. She should not send her troops to help the reelecetion efforts for this administrations president. Rather, sending technology, and medical assistance and know how shall continue to be be well received in Iraq, as well as by all the Turks.
Mr. Bremer simply has blurted the semi-official American administration attitude. He is not alone in seing the rest of the world as dispensible.
It is very sad that Americans and the rest of the world must endure this attitude at least until the next election, or perhaps even more.
