The kaftan between Sicily and Turkey, in Istanbul designer Ferraro – News from Embassies – Ansa.it
Italy’s Ambassador to Turkey Giorgio Marrapodi hosted Sicilian fashion designer Elio Ferraro last night at the Palace of Venice Residence in Istanbul for the event ‘Kaftan. Mediterranean Threads between Sicily and Türkiye’, a new stage of the ‘MeeTurkItaly’ event.
During the event, which was attended by numerous representatives of the Turkish and Italian fashion, art and business worlds in the city on the Bosphorus, Marrapodi emphasized how Italian fashion, with its distinctive style and quality, is a privileged tool to tell the story of Italian savoir-faire and promote Made in Italy, which is appreciated and recognized all over the world. The ambassador emphasized how Italian innovation bases its roots on craftsmanship, integrating history, culture, art and fashion, as confirmed by the testimony of fashion designer Elio Ferraro, among the representatives of Italian craftsmanship and fashion excellence.
During his speech, the designer traced the important history of the kaftan, which from the courts of the Ottoman Empire arrived in Sicily and became one of the symbols of that cultural heritage of Mediterranean matrix that accumulates Turkey and Italy. In addition to the stimulating dialogue between the ambassador, the designer and the large audience that came for the occasion, guests were also able to admire the exhibition of kaftans made by the designer, authentic works of art that celebrate, through fabric, the dialogue between Sicily and Turkey.
