The Guardian: Invasion of Iraq ‘Could be Illegal’

The Guardian revealed the news in an article titled, "Revealed: the Rush to War" by Richard Norton-Taylor, Attorney General Goldsmith presented a document including his "concerns" about the legitimacy of the occupation of Iraq to British Prime Minister Tony Blair on March 7th 2003.

The news article also expressed that "the government was so concerned that it might be prosecuted it set up a team of lawyers to prepare for legal action in an international court."

The source of the news is a book called "Lawless World" by Philippe Sands, a QC in Cherie Booth’s Matrix chambers and professor of international law at University College London.

According to information provided in the book, Goldsmith warned Blair that "military action" might be illegal in his 13-page report that also included his advice.

Goldsmith’s report said that if the issue is taken to court, the use of force could be shown as illegal.
