The best hotels in Cappadocia, Turkey
[ad_1]
Few destinations capture the imagination quite like Cappadocia in Turkey. Its otherworldly landscape of fairy chimneys, rippling hillsides, and knobbly rock formations sculpted by millennia of wind and weather is unlike anywhere else on earth, and the best hotels in Cappadocia are an extension of its charm. It’s no wonder that millions of people visit each year – many coming to stay in one of the historic cave hotels, as well as taking a hot-air balloon ride over the picturesque valley. Rising at dawn from your cavernous suite to witness hundreds of balloons drifting across the sky is unforgettable – and if you’re tempted to take a ride yourself, be sure to book well ahead to secure a spot in peak season (April to November) and request the sunrise option – the conditions are usually better, and getting up at 4.30am will be worth it once you’re up in the air.
Cappadocia is, in fact, a vast region that spans five provinces. Most people will stay around the main tourist towns of Göreme, Ürgüp, Mustafapaşa and Uçhisar. Two airports service the area – Nevşehir and Kayseri. There are very distinct seasons here, too. Summer is dry and hot, and when most tourists arrive, prices are high. During winter, the temperature plummets, and you can often find snow on the ground. This is the quietest and most atmospheric time to visit, and the balloons will only fly if the conditions are right. If you’re staying in one of the cave hotels, I recommend booking a room with a working fireplace. Whether you’re after heritage charm, contemporary luxury or family-friendly comfort, this is my edit of the best hotels in Cappadocia.
