Terror In Europe

Ten bombs worth 200 kilos exploded in three railway stations in Madrid in the morning rush hour. 192 people were killed and 1247 were wounded in the coordinated raids. Madrid became the scene of the bloodiest terror raid witnessed so far in Europe. The Spanish Government declared a 3-day mourning.

The first explosions occurred at the Atocha train station at 07.30 and these were followed by others at the Santa Eugenia and El Pozo stations. Experts said that ten dynamites could have been placed to the stations and rails as well as the wagons. After placing the bombs the ETA terrorists reportedly fled the trains.

This is the bloodiest action in Europe since the Lockerbie disaster in which 270 people in the Scottish town were killed in a bomb-raid, when an American Pan American Boeing exploded over the Lockerbie town.
