Syrian Show of Force Against External Pressure

Tens of thousands of people attended the rally organized by civilian groups in Syria. Ecclesiastics also supported the rally during which the US and Israel were cursed and the international community was sent a clear message of suport for Asad. Algerian and Iraqi flags waved alongside Syrian flags at the giant rally. "It is worthwhile to sacrifice our lives and blood for you oh, Bessar," "The Syrian people will not betray you oh, Bessar," and "Death to the US and Israel" were the slogans chanted. Asad saluted the adoring crowd from the balcony of his home in Amavi Square.

Thousands of Lebanese attended the pro-Syria rally on Tuesday that was organized by Hezbollah’s Beirut branch.

The Lebanese parliament, meanwhile, has nominated pro-Syrian Prime Minister Omar Karami. Karami resigned last week due to the opposition protests. Political sources say that deputies negotiated with President Emile Lahoud to appoint Karami to re-establish the government.
