Syrian Arab Republic: Cross-Border Humanitarian Reach and Activities from Türkiye (October 2022) – Syrian Arab Republic
Context
Artillery shelling and airstrikes continued in October with more civilian casualties. Clashes between non-state armed groups in northern Aleppo that began on 11 October have affected at least eight camps and lasted about one week. At least seven civilians were killed, including three children, and 11 others were injured, according to monitoring carried out by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
In anticipation of one of the harshest winters in Syria, humanitarian partners have started to implement the Winterization and Flood Preparedness Response Plan in October. 1.8 million people are living in over 1,400 camps and sites “of last resort”, the majority of which lack or have limited access to heating, electricity or water supply. 800,000 people are living in tents. A total of US$209.5 million is needed to fund 40 activities to meet the needs of 2.5 million people in north-west Syria this winter.
The first death by cholera in the north-west was confirmed on 3 October. As of 31 October, 219 lab-confirmed cholera cases and five confirmed deaths were recorded in north-west Syria. In the Ras Al Ain – Tell Abiad area, 38 confirmed cholera cases and two deaths were recorded as of the same date.
