Sureyya Ayhan Breaks Her Own Record

Last week’s gold medalist in Paris, Russian athlete Tatiana Tomashova withdrew from the tournament.

After the race, Ayhan said, "This was a repeat of Paris." Ayhan started the race right behind the two pace-setters and when they dropped out in second and third laps, Ayhan stepped up the pace and won easily. She recorded the best time in the world. Russian Yelena Zadorozhania took silver and Russian athlete Yekatherina Rosenberg took the bronze. Ayhan will compete at the World Athletics Final in Monaco next week.
