Suicide car bombing outside military compound in Iraq
"At 7:25 (0425 GMT) this morning a car bomb exploded near the Baghdad New Iraqi Army recruiting centre, 23 recruits were killed, 10 to 16 were wounded," said US Colonel Ralph Baker of the 1st Armoured Division at the scene.
A policeman, Ahmed Sami, told IHA reporter, "I saw many worn out dead bodies. I think, death toll will go up to 50."
Immediately after the blast, many ambulances rushed into the spot and US troops cordoned it off and started to check all vehicles, including even ambulances. Iraqi commuters had to walk because of the road closed to traffic.
Meanwhile, Vice Interior Minister Ahmet Qazim also arrived at scene and observed the investigation.
