Straw: EU ready to embrace united Cyprus

LONDON (AA) – British Secretary of State Jack Straw said on Thursday that his country was ready to embrace an united Cyprus and added, "Turkey’s solution attempts in Cyprus is a part of the country’s courageous reform agenda."

Straw stated that the collapse of Berlin Wall was beginning of the first wawe of reform and transformation and now it spread out Cyprus. He said that Cyprus had chance to enter the EU as an united Cyprus rather divided island.

Stressing that the sides discussed on UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s Cyprus plan, Straw said that both side also couldn’t get all what they desired from the plan, but it became beneficial for both sides.

Straw added that the plan predicted a united Cyrus and Greece deserved applauses for it became the first side which understood that a future would be beneficial for both sides in a cooperation with Turkey.
