South Korea: Turkish Physician – Scientist of the Year

At the congress, attended by nearly 700 scientist from 20 countries, Ulukaya won the award for his work on a new cancer treatment method – Chemosensitivity testing (Onkogram).

Ulukaya explained that the scientific research he had done abroad were instrumental in him winning the award. He discussed his treatment method: "The Onkogram technique helps to determine what kind of medicine cancer cells, taken from the cancer tissue, are sensitive to or resistant to. With this technique, cancer patients will no longer have to use or suffer from the side effects of unnecessary medicines."

Ulukaya said that the Onkogram technique was only being practiced in Turkey and that research on cancer was continuing at UU.

"I am very happy to win this award, first of all, for our country then for our university. My goal is to continue my work in this field, in Turkey," he said.
