Some U.S. Troops in Iraq not For Democracy
Another G.I. Thomas wants Turkish troops in Iraq as soon as possible. He feels Turkish soldiers understand what Iraqis say and this makes the U.S. soldiers’ job easier.
Adnan Nesecakir, of Turkmen origin, has a one-year contract with the U.S. Army as well. He gets US$450 for his translation service. He talked about his reason for being in the army, "I’m serving in the U.S. Army because I want to have a green card. They promised me [a green card]. If I stay alive for one year, I will get it."
Unlike the others Jery Coleman, of African origin, with 17 years experience in the U.S. Army, wants to further his career. He is wholeheartedly behind the deployment of Turkish troops. Coleman said, "No harm will come from Turks. Therefore, we will not be on a one-on-one relationship with Iraqis. Turks are Muslims. They can overcome problems with the people. And we can go on with our real job, which is to fight against Saddam’s supporters."
