Solution needed on Cyprus before Turkey enters EU: Simitis

The Greek Prime Minister also blamed Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for the failure in March of United Nations brokered negotiations to bring about a reunification on the island. New proposals put forward by TRNC President Rauf Denktaş were unacceptable.
“The Turkish-Cypriot side has made unusual proposals,” Simitis said. “In reality they merely aim at covering up the responsibility of Turkey and the Turkish-Cypriot side for the failure of the talks at The Hague.”
