Solution in Cyprus seems difficult by May 1

ANKARA (AA) – I am in full accord with Ankara but even if both Greek and Turkish side work with good will a solution cannot be reached by May 1, Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktas said today adding, "But the important point is to start the talks."

Addressing journalists at Esenboga Airport prior to his departure, Denktas said, "I go back to the island with the power and morale I have taken from Ankara."

He went on to say, "There is a negotiation process in front of us. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan tells his own opinions in Washington. I believe that it would not be right to reveal our negotiation strategy at this stage. But there is an important consensus on Turkish Cyprus’s sensivities. Our target is a settlement which wouldn’t bring 1963-1974 period on agenda again."

Denktas added that they wanted a stable peace and Turkey continued its good will attempts. Denktas stressed, "We accept a task to help the motherland (Turkey) about its attempts for a solution."
