Snow Freezes Turkey

Last night, a homeless man, froze to death while he was asleep on the street in Istanbul’s Fatih neighborhood. A 50-year old John Doe was found dead in the Uludere district of Hacilar in Kayseri. 66-year old retiree, Cemal Cuzdan, froze to death in a hut, where he lived on Lari Cami Street in Edirne.

Due to heavy snowfall, schools were closed for a day in Duzce and its districts, Kandira, a district of Kocaeli, Ahirli and Bozkir, districts of Konya, and in dowtown Bursa.

Due to snow in Kayseri, Turkish Airlines’ (THY) Istanbul-Kayseri and Kayseri-Istanbul flights were cancelled. Officials stated that snow-cleaning efforts continued on the runway of the Erkilet Airport. Snowfall has reached 75 cm. at the Erciyes Skiing Center.
