Sezer to AKP: Use Power in Measures
In Sezer’s address to the deputies, the AKP applauded Sezer for his remarks on promising economic developments, but when the president warned the AKP about power abuse, it was the Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) turn to cheer. In his speech, Sezer made strong reference to Ataturk, secularism and the fundamental principles of the Republic. In essence, he conveyed the messages that it was a virtue of the party in power to respect the opposition. The right to appoint members to judiciary organs belonged to president and the authorisation to appoint members of the Constitutional Court would be criticized ethically. However, it was not appropriate for parliament to choose court members, he said.
