"Secular governments disrespectful on Islam" says Al Hakim
"We opposed the war till the first day but US used Saddam Hussein as an excuse. Iraq’s government could be reorganised without war. US came to our soils. We do not support France because they supported US not Iraqis" he critised the war days. Hakim said answeing a question on women’s rights that they would support women in new Iraq. "I will work for my people. I came here for them. I will do my best for freedom, independence and justice" he added. Hakim, who heads the Supreme Assembly for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SAIRI), returned to his birthplace of Najaf Monday after 23 years in exile and a triumphant three-day tour of the country underlining the potential political clout of Shiites, who make up 60 percent of the population in Iraq. His return was greeted by tens of thousands of people in the holy city of Najaf and came only hours before Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Iranian resumption of ties with the United States would be surrender.
