Russia claims Ukraine lost weapons, soldiers in clashes on Snake Island

MOSCOW

Russia claimed Tuesday that Ukraine lost dozens of soldiers and weapons during a three-day conflict on Snake Island located in the Black Sea.

In a statement, the country’s military spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, said Kyiv lost a total of four aircraft, 10 helicopters, 30 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), three armored warships and over 50 soldiers in the conflict on the Island.

Meanwhile, Konashenkov claimed that attacks throughout Ukraine are underway, adding Russian forces have so far eliminated 164 Ukrainian aircraft, 125 helicopters, 798 UAVs, 302 air defense missile systems, 2,983 tanks and armored vehicles, 351 multiple launch rocket systems and 1,440 howitzers and mortars as well as 2,796 private military vehicles.

At least 3,459 civilians have been killed and 3,713 others injured since Russia launched the war on Ukraine on Feb. 24, according to UN estimates. The true toll is feared to be much higher.

More than 5.91 million people have fled to other countries, with some 7.7 million people internally displaced, according to the UN refugee agency.
