Record in Foreign Trade Deficit: 7.2 Billion Dollars

The foreign trade deficit increased by 80 % and reached to 7.2 billion dollars in the first three months. Exports increased by 25.5 % and reached to 13 billion dollars, while the imports increased by 40.7 and reached to 20.2 billion dollars in the first three months of this year.

Turkey carried out exports amounting to 13 billion 4.2 million and imports to 20 billion 213 million dollars between January and March of this year. According to the data of State Statistics Institute (DIE), in the first three months of 2004 the exports increased by 25.5 % and imports by 40.7 % as compared to the same period of last year.

Last year, while exports were worth 10 billion 365 million and imports worth 14 billion 367 million dollars, foreign trade deficit was 1.7 billion dollars between January and June.
