Putin Calls Allies as Wagner Advances Toward Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin made calls to a number of foreign leaders still friendly with the Kremlin on Saturday “in relation to the attempted armed mutiny” in the country, according to the Kremlin.

Putin spoke with his closest ally throughout the war in Ukraine, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, as well as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Kremlin said.

“The president of Russia informed [him] of the situation in the country in relation to the attempted armed mutiny,” the statement said. “The president of the Turkish Republic expressed full support for the steps by [the] Russian leadership.”
