Public servants start walking towards Ankara city center
KESK President Sami Evren said that they had won the right to make a mass proclamation in Kizilay, adding that those public servants prevented by police to enter Kizilay Square would be allowed to enter.
Evren briefing a group of public servants obstructing traffic on Ziya Gokalp Street, said that police had accepted their demands and that after police are in place, demonstrators would be allowed in the square.
Busses prevented by police to enter Ankara had been allowed to pass by.
Public Servants who have been called by their union KESK to come to Ankara and have refused to be allowed to enter Kizilay Square have started to demonstrate against the police obstruction.
PUBLIC SERVANT CREATE TRAFFIC CHAOS
Public servants have sat down on the major roads and have blocked traffic. Police are telling the protesters that their action is illegal.
Ankara traffic has been greatly affected by the action of KESK and some businesses have closed for the day.
Public Servants’ Union KESK had organized a protest march today, calling public servants from all over Turkey to assemble in Ankara. Reports say that police have blocked the entrance of nearly 187 busses at four choke points around Ankara to prevent their attendance of “Democratic Turkey for humane life” march.
Police officials said that they had told KESK officials to make their mass public pronouncement in Sihhiye Square, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Boulevard or Abdi Ipekci Park, but the offer was refused. KESK officials wanted to make their pronouncement at Kizilay Square. Officials say that consultations with KESK are continuing.
