Poll result aggravates Turkey dilemma over Cyprus
Turkey plans to relaunch stalled Cyprus peace talks, but the inconclusive outcome of Sunday’s Turkish Cypriot election will hamper progress and may also dent Ankara’s drive to join the European Union, experts said.
The northern Cyprus election left supporters and opponents of a U.N. blueprint to reunite Greek and Turkish Cypriots evenly matched in the new parliament, raising the prospect of prolonged deadlock possibly leading to fresh elections early next year.
