Pervez Musharraf Survives Assassination Attempt

General Sultan explained that part of the road was damaged and the bomb was quite powerful.

After the incident, extraordinary security measures have been taken in the capital Islamabad and Ravalpindhi.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far.

Musharraf declared illegal six Islamic groups and closed their offices. Thousands of offices and buildings were shut down in the operations organized throughout the country.

It has not been ruled out that internal groups may be behind this latest attempt on the president’s life. Musharraf is not a popular figure among some of Pakistan’s groups. Last year, Musharraf survived a previous assassination attempt in Pakistan’s largest city Karachi.

The attackers were arrested before they could carry out their plan. As a result two people have each been sentenced to seven years imprisonment.

Musharraf has been living with his family in a military zone in Ravalpindhi since he first became president. An old soldier, he prefers to stay in the military zone for security purposes.
