Papadopulous: We will not Make it Easier for Turkey

The Greek leader told Haravgi newspaper that Turkey would be looking for a way to abolish the ‘Cypriot Republic.’ He also said, "Turkey’s other definite strategy was to fulfill the requirement of recognizing us as interconnected while avoiding recognition of the ‘Cypriot Republic’ with the excuse that the two communities are under negotiations. Neither the parties we are cooperating with nor the opposition party would accept our making this easier for Turkey so it can survive its current political dilemma." Papadopulous denied that they are being isolated in Europe saying, "On the contrary, we have received great support. The ‘fake’ state [Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)) was not recognized and now everybody is talking about a new plan." TRNC Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat criticized TRNC President Rauf Denktas for believing in an independent TRNC, calling it a dream.
