Panic as severe ‘stomach bug’ plagues four-star hotel in Turkey – leaving ’28 tourists’ unwell including British girl, seven, who went ‘yellow’ with sickness

A seven-year-old girl turned ‘yellow’ when she came down with what holidaymakers at a four-star hotel resort in Turkey believe to be a vicious stomach bug.

Sade Ingram, 32, claimed her daughter Phoebe was one of ’28 cases’ of guests at the Club Mermaid Village being struck down by the illness, which she thought was going to kill the youngster.

The resort is in Alanya, a town on Turkey’s south coast which is a popular among sun seekers, and apparently costs over £2,500 for a 10-night stay.

Guests have created a WhatsApp  group to keep track of the suspected illness spreading through the resort while they lock themselves away in their rooms to either avoid catching anything, or look after themselves.

One guest alleged there had been ’28 cases’ of a feared bacterial or gastroenteritis bug in the hotel, while Ms Ingram said: ‘We have all had [it].’

Ms Ingram, who is also on holiday with a nine-year-old daughter, told the Manchester Evening News that both her and her seven-year-old were treated in hospital after coming down with a ‘gastro bug’.

The Sheffield native added that she thought her daughter was ‘going to die’, who even hallucinated because of how dehydrated she became.

She praised the hospital but suggested the two of them will not be the only Club Mermaid Village guests to have paid a visit, with ambulances supposedly a frequent sight at the hotel’s entrance, as well as police.

Ms Ingram claimed that doctors have told the hotel it needs to introduce quarantine measures.

A number of guests revealed they have been holed up in their rooms eating packet noodles and other shop-bought food rather than the hotel’s in an attempt to steer clear of the illness.

Ms Ingram said some staff at the resort fell ill themselves, but continued to serve food, and added that her family’s room is yet to be cleaned since they were sick.

Another family said they spent roughly £2,500 on a 10-day stay at the resort for five of them.

Ceri George, 36, from Oldham, revealed her and her husband’s eight-month-old baby has a weakened immune system, and the three of them – alongside the couple’s nine-year-old daughter and teenage stepdaughter – have spent four days and counting in their room.

Ms George booked the getaway through loveholidays, who have said they will be launching an investigation.

Ms Ingram booked through On The Beach, who commented: ‘We’re sorry that the Ingram family have felt unwell on holiday. We take all claims of sickness seriously and are investigating with the hotel.

‘Separately, we have offered a gesture of goodwill to reflect some of the hotel issues identified, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience caused. This offer has been accepted.’

MailOnline have contacted the hotel for comment.
