Palestinian factions urge Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar, US to ensure Israel’s compliance with Gaza ceasefire deal
ISTANBUL
Three Palestinian factions urged Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar, and the US on Friday to ensure Israel’s full compliance with the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
In a joint statement, Hamas, the Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) expressed “deep appreciation” for the “tireless efforts” of the mediators Türkiye, Egypt and Qatar and urged the US and all mediating parties to “maintain pressure to ensure the occupation’s full commitment to every clause of the agreement.”
The factions said they had made “tremendous and exhausting efforts” to secure the release of all Palestinian detainees, including women and national leaders, adding that Israel “obstructed the release of a significant number of them.”
They said the agreement marked “a political and security failure for the Israeli occupation” and thwarted its plans for forced displacement, describing the deal as “a testament to the resistance’s steadfastness and national unity.”
The factions reaffirmed that the release of all Palestinian detainees remains a top national priority, pledging not to abandon the cause of prisoners and their families.
The statement called for national unity and a comprehensive Palestinian political dialogue, urging the convening of an inclusive meeting under Egyptian auspices to agree on a unified national strategy for the post-ceasefire phase, rebuild national institutions, and strengthen social solidarity in Gaza through coordination between factions, civil society, and humanitarian organizations.
Rejecting any form of foreign guardianship or external control, the factions asserted that the administration of Gaza is a “purely Palestinian matter,” while welcoming Arab and international participation in reconstruction, recovery, and development efforts.
Trump announced Wednesday that Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of a 20-point plan he laid out on Sept. 29 to bring a ceasefire to Gaza, release all Israeli captives being held there in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip.
A second phase of the plan calls for the establishment of a new governing mechanism in Gaza without Hamas’ participation, the formation of a security force comprising Palestinians and troops from Arab and Islamic countries, and the disarmament of Hamas.
Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 67,200 Palestinians in the enclave, most of them women and children, and rendered it uninhabitable.
