Nigeria and Galatasaray top striker, Victor Osimhen has refuted claims in a section of the Turkish press that he was involved in a bust up with a Turkish journalist.
Osimhen who yesterday scored Galatasaray’s lone goal winner from the spot in the Turkish Super Lig clash with Konyaspor to extend the lead to nine points ahead of second placed Fenerbahce, spoke with Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe.
The Napoli player on loan at Galatasaray dismissed the Turkish journalist’s claim that he was allegedly assaulted and threatened by the player for taking his photos.
Osimhen also insisted that he was never at a night club but an African restaurant to do dinner with a few friends.
According to Efoghe, when Osimhen was done with the dinner and was outside the restaurant to sight his friend’s brand new car which was brought to the location, the ”The intruders’ came from nowhere and started taking pictures and videos of him publicly without consent and he asked them to stop. This he says is within his rights to do.”
He said Osimhen was neither on a football pitch, nor on the Galatasaray training ground.
The Eagles Media Officer stressed that Osimhen never came close or raised a finger on anyone as against what has been circulated. If he did, that would be regarded an assault and he could be sued.
Reports in a section of the Turkish online media surfaced on Saturday suggesting that Osimhen was involved in a fight with a journalist during a late-night outing in Istanbul, Turkey.
The reports said the incident occurred as Osimhen was leaving an entertainment venue with friends.
According to some of the reports, a group of journalists, including Tolga Bozduman, attempted to take photographs of Osimhen.
Bozduman recounted the events, stating; “I filmed Osimhen at the door with three of my colleagues. When the flashes went off, all hell broke loose. He ran towards me, shouting. He tried to take my camera, but I didn’t let him.”
“The punch he threw hit me in the head. My right side still hurts. He then started swearing.”
“Then he offered, ‘Destroy the footage, I’ll give you money.’ When I refused, he threatened me by saying, ‘I’ll destroy you,” the Turkish journalist was alleged to have told the news media after the episode outside the African restaurant.
