One Day We will be Pleased with Turkish Immigration

In an evaluation of the permanent restrictions on Turkish immigration cited in the Progress Report, Verheugen said that with Turkey’s membership, the EU will have a crucial role in world politics. Verheugen told the German news magazine, Der Spiegel, yesterday that Turkey will be needed in Europe even if it is only for its younger population. Verheugen recalled that the population of Europe, which ages day by day, will need social security in the following years and added, "We will be happy for the immigration of Turks." Verheugen had said before that the decision to place permanent restrictions on the free movement of Turks in Europe was made to lessen some anxieties in Europe.
