Olympic Shame of Greek Cypriots

A diplomatic hiccup is forcing a last-minute route change for the Olympic flame’s trail through Cyprus, ethnically divided since 1974.

The flame is due on Cyprus on Thursday. It will now only pass through the southern Greek Cypriot part of Cyprus.

The east Mediterranean island was the last stop of the flame’s six-week global journey before returning to Greece on July 9, a month before the start of the August 2004 Olympics.
