Office to take care of TRNC citizens’ rights opens

TRNC President Rauf Denktas said that Turkish Cypriots could make their applications to file lawsuits regarding properties which were expropriated in the Greek Cypriot side as of Wednesday.

Denktas said that he had a meeting with chief prosecutor Akin Sait and other lawyers and stated that they discussed compensation lawsuits which TRNC citizens would file in Greek Cypriot courts.

Stating that the office would be opened on Monday, he said that TRNC citizens could make their applications regarding lawsuits which they would file about their properties which were expropriated in the Greek Cypriot side as of Wednesday.

Touching on the Cyprus issue, Denktas said that there were some people who wanted to remove Turkey’s effective and de facto guaranty and take away Turkish soldiers who protected borders of TRNC from those lands with U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan’s plan and stated, "if we are deceived by such tricks, Turkish Cypriot people will yearn for both their flag and freedom again."

Stating that Turkish Cypriot people would fell into an minority position in "Greek Cypriot Republic" which was wanted to be founded, Denktas said that some circles wanted to put Turkish Cypriot people on the way to which Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis, Greek Cypriot Parliament Speaker Dimitris Hristofyas and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos wanted to take them.
