No way to prevent partition in Cyprus

"The defenseless people of a small island were living in peace with their Turkish brothers, when they were faced with the large Turkish army all of a sudden. This army invaded Cyprus and forced its people to flee. It eventually left 40,000 of its troop stationed on the island. Human rights were violated, women were raped and their property stolen. This turn of events of made their Turkish brother’s very upset, but they were unable to prevent the partition of the island. The only thing Greek Cypriots want is for this army to return to its country, so that this beautiful island could once again be shared with their Turkish brothers. A united Cyprus should be the home of both Greek and Turkish Cypriots."

People of the world could not be aware that such statements were full of mistakes and lies.

They couldn’t have known that until the military intervention, (1950-1974) Turkish villages were regularly attacked by EOKA’s militants, there were innumerable attempts at uniting Greece and Cyprus (ENOSIS) and in 1974, the military government in Athens toppled Cypriot President Makarios in order to replace him with ENOSIS supporter Sampson.

The world could not know that the only reason why the Turkish army intervened in Cyprus was because of the Cypriot EOKA supporters and their crazy brothers in Athens.

Greek Cypriots know how to tell their own story.

They tricked the international community.

However, their success was also caused by the clumsy policies of Ankara and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) President Rauf Denktas.

Whenever there was an attempt at finding a solution on the island, Greek Cypriots would come out and say, "We want a united Cyprus. We want to live side by side with our Turkish brothers." Denktas and Ankara, on the other hand, would be against such a solution.

The side that ruined all these attempts was always the Turkish side.

In the eyes of the world, it was the Greek Cypriots who were for peace and solution, while Turks were obstructionist and were the side that wanted the continued division of the island by utilizing its military strength.

No one saw beyond this Greek Cypriot game.

No one could, because Denktas and the supporters of the status quo in Ankara always knew how to prevent any progress.

Denktas followed this policy because he believed in this ideology. However, he failed to see that one day all these games would be tumbling down.
The EU and the U.N. ruin the Greek Cypriot game

The game Greek Cypriots played over the years was ruined because of three reasons.

* The EU’s full membership carrot,
* The U.S. taking the Annan plan seriously,
* Denktas forced to stand on the sidelines.

If these three developments had not occurred at the same time, Greek Cypriots would have continued to play their game.

However, the EU membership they trusted so much, the Annan plan and Rauf Denktas pushed aside, ruined everything.

The point we have reached now has shown the world the truth.

Moreover, if they vote "no" in Saturday’s referenda, they will be damaging their own interests.

They will be able to tell no one that they want a united Cyprus to live side by side with their Turkish brothers.

By voting no on Saturday, they will be accepting that the partition formula will be the only possible way.

When the Denktas element they hid behind was removed, the reality become plain for everyone to see.

The decision is theirs. They will either be satisfied with the Annan plan or will partition the island forever.
