"No Turks among those died in Stampede in Hajj"

Sources told the A.A correspondent on Sunday that the deaths were reported during the stoning ritual of a crowded group of mostly Iranian pilgrims.

They added that some pilgrims who slipped and fell during the ritual were trampled to death in the crush of people throwing pebbles at stone pillars symbolizing the devil.

The devil stoning is the hajj’s most animated ritual. Each person throws seven times, chanting bismillah (in the name of God) and Allah akbar (God is great) to demonstrate their deep disdain for the devil.
