Nicosia: First round of reunification talks ended

He spoke shortly after EU Enlargement Commissioner Gunter Verheugen arrived at the talks venue, a former terminal at Nicosia’s defunct international airport in the UN-manned buffer zone between the two sides.
"It was a very constructive session. There was ample goodwill and it was conducted in a businesslike fashion."told reporters de Soto after the talks. De Soto said the two would meet every morning at 9:30 am (0730 GMT), though he did not clarify if this would include weekends and public holidays.
Verheugen said he had explained to the two leaders the role of the European Commission in the UN-brokered efforts to reach a settlement based on a plan drawn up by Annan for a Swiss-style federation. "The EU wants to demonstrate its strong will and preparedness to support and facilitate" a solution, he said. "We will do everything that is needed to make this a success."
