New York Times ‘Turkey Offers 1,800 Troops’
The paper also reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal, who is on an official visit to the US, had offered support for rebuilding Iraq, including the deployment of 1,200 to 1,800 troops for aid purposes. It also quoted US Deputy Secretary of Defense, Paul Wolfowitz as saying, ‘Turkey is eager now to assist us in the reconstruction of Iraq and ‘that’s just one example of a country that has begun to move in our direction’.
