New Türkiye quake kills one, 110 injured as buildings collapse

A magnitude-5.6 earthquake shook south-east Türkiye on Monday, killing one person, injuring 110 and causing 29 buildings to collapse, Turkish authorities said.

The quake with a 6.15 kilometre depth was centred in the town of Yesilyurt in Malatya province, Yunus Sezer, the chief of the country’s disaster management agency, AFAD, told reporters

A father and daughter who were trapped beneath the rubble of a four-story building in Yesilyurt were rescued with injuries.

The pair had entered the damaged building to collect belongings.

Elsewhere in Malatya, search-and-rescue teams were sifting through the rubble of two damaged buildings that toppled on top of some parked cars, trapping three people, HaberTurk reported.
