NATO Defence Ministers start discussions in Brussels

German Defence Minister Peter Struck, who met Rumsfeld on Wednesday, said on his arrival that NATO had to adapt to new threats from terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. In addition to discussing the aftermath of the war in Iraq, which caused deep rifts in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the ministers are to debate a reorganization of the alliance’s military command. NATO agreed earlier this month to support Poland in establishing a multi-national stabilization force in Iraq, of which Warsaw, a key European ally of Washington during the war,is to command one sector.
