NATO Chief de Hoop Scheffer visits Istanbul

De Hoop Scheffer, who is making his second trip to Turkey since taking over his post at the beginning of the year, was scheduled to discuss the arrangements for the June 28-29 summit over dinner with Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul. On Thursday, de Hoop Scheffer is scheduled to tour Istanbul’s historic Sultanahmet district and speak at a local university.

The summit, which U.S. President George W. Bush and other leaders are scheduled to attend, will mark the formal entry into the alliance of Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovenia and Slovakia.
