National Sovereignty And Children’s Day Celebrated by Turks

Ceremonies to be held commemorating the 83rd anniversary of the Turkish Parliament will start at Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, with a visit by a delegation of teachers and students representing all of Turkey’s provinces. Cabinet members under the leadership of Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc, members of the Parliamentary Presidency Council, the chairmen of the political parties in Parliament and their representatives, and deputies are participating in a ceremony that will be held at parliament. Arinc, together with high-ranking officials of the state, will visit Anitkabir and lay a wreath at the tomb of Ataturk. Another ceremony will later be held at the Turkish Parliament’s historical first building in which Ataturk declared, "Unconditional, unrestricted sovereignty belongs to the nation" on April 23, 1920, thus establishing the first national assembly.

April 23, also known simply as Children’s Day, is the world’s only day of celebration presented as a gift to children by the founder and president of a nation.
