Morocco Considers Turkish Floating Power Ships as Temporary Solution to Energy Challenges – فاس نيوز ميديا
Morocco has recently begun exploring the possibility of cooperating with Turkey to utilize floating power ships, known for their ability to provide immediate and flexible electricity supply, especially amid increasing pressure on the electrical grid and infrastructure shortages.
Ali Hajij, Deputy Sales Director at the Turkish company “Carboarship” in Africa, stated during his participation in the African Energy Forum that Morocco is considered a promising market due to its progress in clean energy and its growing reliance on natural gas as a primary energy source.
Hajij explained that his company, part of the Turkish “Kara Deniz” Group, offers practical and rapid solutions through floating power plants powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), making them a suitable option for Morocco’s transitional phase, particularly given the delays in the gas pipeline project linking Nigeria and Morocco.
These ships feature advanced engines capable of operating on various fuels such as LNG or liquid fuel, along with the ability to adapt to the grid’s needs in terms of electricity output and startup speed, providing great flexibility in demand management.
Despite Morocco’s significant progress in developing solar and wind energy projects, it still faces challenges in financing and constructing traditional power plants, making temporary solutions like floating power ships a practical and necessary option at present.
It is worth noting that several other Arab countries, including Iraq, Lebanon, and Sudan, have already adopted this technology, where Turkish floating power ships have substantially contributed to meeting electricity demand, especially during crises and emergencies.
