More Torture in Iraq Under New Government
Page 94 of the HRW report says that Iraqi police have made illegal arrests for pleasure, that prisoners were imprisoned for long periods of time, and that those in prison commonly faced abuse and torture.
The organization conducted face to face interviews with 90 prisoners, 72 of which claim they were tortured and abused. The report says that insurgent attacks against Iraqi police do not give Iraqi officials the right to subject the prisoners to torture of any kind.
