MIT Retaliation of Switzerland

The conversation of Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy Rey with a PKK militant had been reported by MIT to Ankara, which had resulted in the cancellation of the visit of her to Turkey.

The motion, which was prepared by Christian People’s Party Deputy Jean Claude Vaudroz, aroused fierce discussions in Parliament. Those, who wanted the motion to be adopted, claimed that it was a historical event, and recognition of it would serve to the improvement of relations between Turkey and Armenia. The opponents, on the other hand, argued that an event, which took place at the time of the Ottoman Empire, should not be attributed to Turkey.

Switzerland had suspended the motion last year, however it was put in the agenda of Parliament as a retribution for the activities of MIT in Switzerland.
