Mini-satellite BILSAT Scheduled for June Launch

The mini-satellite, designed with the help of Turkish engineers who were also involved in the manufacturing phase, will be Turkey’s first mini-satellite. Transported to Russia for launch upon the completion of final tests in February, BILSAT, a low-altitude satellite, will operate in an orbit 686 kilometers from earth.

The 120-kilogram satellite will be used for receiving data that it will collect at 12- and 26-meter resolution. These data will be transmitted to the relevant organizations after being received at a ground satellite station to be established at BILTEN. The satellite system, designed to scan the earth’s surface, will be used to provide advance warning of natural disasters and for the observation of extraordinary phenomena.
