Meta to temporarily shutter Twitter rival Threads in Turkey (NASDAQ:META)

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) said on Monday it will temporarily shutter Threads in Turkey from April 29 to comply with an interim order of the Turkish Competition Authority.
In March, Turkey’s competition authority had stated that Meta (META) was abusing its dominant market position by combining the data of users who create their Thread profiles based on their Instagram account. It imposed an interim order meant to hinder data sharing between Threads and Instagram.
Turkey’s competition board had launched the investigation on the way Meta (META) linked Instagram to Threads in December.
Threads, a competitor to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter), launched in the U.S. and over 100 other countries in July 2023, attracting nearly 100M users within the first three days.
There will be no impact to other Meta (META) services such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp in Turkey, the company noted in a blog post.
